Devotion Rewarded
Marriage is a journey that we choose to take together. Yet on OUR path we have heard too many times of couples coming to a fork in the road and choosing to take separate ways. I am using the word "choose" with the bravest intentions. So if you are are not up to a spiritual chastening then I suggest you stop reading here.
.......for those who "choose" to continue I hope that you are convicted and wise enough to see the blessing of discipline.
Once you cross over the threshold into the sacredness of the unity of one man and one woman there is no turning back. All choices at that point have consequences that affect everyone around you. Yes "everyone". You, your spouse, your family, your spouses family, your friends, friends friends and most of all your children. Every decision you make affects them as well. Good ones and bad ones.

Love is a choice........selfishness is choice. Feeling comes as a reward/consequence for the choice. That true love feeling that we all want, it is a reward for choosing the best for someone besides yourself. It is a reward for choosing to stay devoted.... and in today's world .... uncommonly devoted.
Those negative feelings can be traced right back to a choice made. Yep, I am going there. Some chose not to see the good in their spouse. Others chose to expect the unattainable from their spouse or far worse maybe they chose to jump into marriage without truly counting the cost. Now they are drowning because they didn't take swimming lessons.
Okay so now that we all feel bad, lets make the choice to take the consequences of our past actions and make the wise decision to start over with enlightened hearts. Choose to remain devoted.
So should we fear marriage? Yes..... and no. There is a such a thing as healthy fear... like that you feel when you see fire. You should teach your children what to do when they see fire and eventually teach them to see it as a valuable tool. They need to know not to touch or get to close to it until they are big enough to handle the responsibility of it. When they are big enough they can began to understand that fire is an energy source that is useful for so many things. It warms, gives light, and you can cook things with it. Fire is one of the most primitive things that has actually been used to make the most amazing things..... like the glass and iron works. Yet fire has boundaries that can not be crossed. Danger will come if you just play with fire.

Marriage is like fire. It has to be maintained. It has boundaries that can't be broken. It has to be rekindled. To the young heart it is dangerous. Yet if you allow yourself to be trained in the proper use of it then you will be blessed beyond measure. If you function in the natural boundaries of marriage and continue to have a sacred fear of it then your heart feels freedom and joy that was intended in marriage. The fire of marriage becomes an divine energy source. It warms you, enlightens you and feeds you.

So couples, when you come the fork in the road, choose to take the same path together. It may seem at the time the road ahead is too difficult but you can't tell much about either path at fork. You may get down the "easy" path discover that you were deceived by the smooth road. Sometimes a rocky path is the safest place and offers more shelter than the wide open spaces. Either path is difficult by yourself. Your children will benefit the most by your choice to stay devoted and wait on the Lord during the difficult times..... Personally the reward for devotion has proven to us to be astoundingly beautiful. Praise to Adonai!!!!
